CHEMISTRY In The Community 

(CHEMCOM) Fourth Edition

At

California University of Pennsylvania

Friday, June 21st, 2002

9 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. with lunch provided

Room 109, New Science Building

Act 48 Hours

At this workshop, you will learn about teaching high school chemistry organized around societal and technological issues. This hands-on workshop will be led by ChemCom Teacher’s Guide co-author, Dr. Joseph Zisk, along with J. Kevin Kelly, a Pittsburgh City High school chemistry teacher, and Terrance E. Klazer. Materials (including a free textbook and resources) will be provided. Please bring safety goggles and an apron or lab coat as we will be doing labs.

The workshop will focus on:


    Teaching Chemistry and the PA Education Standards 
    Laboratory activities (micro-scale techniques)
    Instructional student-centered strategies
    Teacher support material
